The Skyview House

Project Summary: Perched atop a 200-foot bluff at one of the highest points in St. Louis County, The Skyview House brings the spirit of Big Sky, Montana, to a setting with sweeping western valley views.

Client Vision: The owners envisioned a mountain-rustic home shaped around the expansive landscape, with bold architecture that remains secondary to the sky, valley, and surrounding natural beauty.

Project Challenges: The design needed to capture the dramatic views throughout the home while ensuring that its architecture and outdoor spaces complemented—rather than obstructed—the remarkable setting.

Solution: A timber-framed entry opens to a two-story great room, where walls of glass create an uninterrupted connection through the home to the horizon. Natural limestone, warm wood cladding, exposed timber, and vaulted ceilings reinforce its rustic character. A second-floor landing showcases the owners’ large Christmas tree to arriving guests and the great room below, while the primary suite features valley views and a private sitting porch. Outside, an infinity-edge pool appears to spill toward the bluff, and a covered living area positioned away from the house offers its own perspective without blocking interior views. The result is a bold rustic retreat that gives way to the landscape around it.
