History
The roots of Schaub Projects trace back to 1992, when our Founder and Managing Partner, David Schaub, founded Schaub Design Group, Inc. Working from the basement of an engineer’s office in suburban St. Louis, Missouri, Dave built his practice on a simple principle: every project—no matter its size or scope—deserves the same level of professionalism, care, and attention to detail. His commitment to excellence quickly earned recognition, and word of his work began to spread.
As the firm’s reputation grew, so did its workload. Outgrowing the basement studio, Schaub Design Group purchased a small office in Kirkwood, Missouri, marking the first of many milestones. Through dedication, award-winning designs, and a growing list of satisfied clients, the firm became one of the most sought-after names in St. Louis residential architecture.
By the mid-1990s, Schaub Design Group’s reach extended beyond Missouri—taking on projects throughout the country, including Colorado, Washington, and Florida.
In 2007, tragedy struck when a fire destroyed the firm’s office, followed soon after by the economic downturn of the Great Recession. With the housing industry at a standstill, Dave made the difficult decision to downsize. Even in these challenging times, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of thoughtful design and client service. Through perseverance and creativity, the firm weathered the storm and rebuilt its studio in 2012.
That same year marked a new chapter. After meeting architect Robert Srote in 2008, the two joined forces to establish Schaub+Srote Architects (SSA) in 2012. The firm thrived—expanding to include commercial architecture, interior design, and structural engineering divisions. By 2018, SSA had become a recognized multidisciplinary practice.
While Dave was proud of SSA’s success, he felt called to return to a more personal, client-centered approach—one focused on intimate collaboration and true artistry. In late 2018, he sold his interest in SSA and founded Schaub Projects Architecture + Design to carry that vision forward.
Shortly thereafter, Dave’s son Andrew (Drew) Schaub joined as a partner, infusing the firm with new energy and perspective. Together, they continued to build upon a legacy of design excellence rooted in craftsmanship, service, and innovation.
In November 2025, Schaub acquired Metheny Architects and Jon Metheny joined Schaub Projects as a Director of Design and Partner, bringing a fresh modernist vision and a deepened creative range to the firm.
Today, Schaub Projects remains committed to delivering creative and functional homes—crafted with care, guided by collaboration, and grounded in the belief that great architecture enhances how people live.
Our team remains focused on providing creative design solutions that are functional, comfortable, and sustainable—all while staying within the client’s budget.
