The English Country House

Project Summary: The English Country House is a contemporary interpretation of old-world Tudor architecture, set on a rare three-acre site in Town & Country, Missouri.

Client Vision: The clients envisioned a home that could comfortably entertain large groups while remaining intimate and functional for two people in everyday life. They wanted traditional architecture paired with refined, comfortable, and inviting interiors.

Project Challenges: The design needed to balance a traditional Tudor exterior with more transitional interiors while responding thoughtfully to the site’s dramatic grade change and expansive valley views.

Solution: Steeply pitched gables, natural stone, and traditional forms establish the home’s Tudor character, while clean detailing, contemporary elements, and warm materials shape the interiors. Pocketing glass doors connect the main living areas to a covered, screened outdoor room with a fireplace. The steep topography places the pool at the lower level, which was designed as a secondary living and entertaining space with direct access to the pool terrace and covered pavilion. The result is a timeless country house shaped by its setting and the owners’ lifestyle.
